A DEFENSIVE lapse and ill fortune in front of goal conspired against Pershore Town in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Brocton.

Steve Webb slotted away an early opener for Town from Jack Downing’s forceful work but having allowed that lead to slip, there was no route to victory in spite of a dominant display.

Webb’s fierce low shot gave keeper Conor McCarthy no chance but while an overhit back pass from Pershore's James Walker cannoned back off the post, Jack Edwards fired into the top corner from the corner that followed.

Undeterred, the hosts pushed on with Downing shaving the far post with a low drive after a mazy run had taken him past two markers.

Strike partner Charlie Anagho-Ntamark then headed an Aaron Xavier cross back to Downing only for McCarthy to react quickly enough to grab the ball.

Downing flicked the post after the interval and while substitutes Alfie Bloomer and Ollie Manoochehri added potency to the attack, there was no breakthrough.
