Woodford Green with Essex Ladies runner Youcef Abdi misses out on place in London 2012 Olympic 3000m Steeplechase final

Woodford Green with Essex Ladies competitor Youcef Abdi missed out on a place in the 3000m Steeplechase final after a sixth place finish in the heats this afternoon.

The Australian finished sixth in a time of 8.29.81 – less than a second behind second-placed Yuri Floriani – meaning he failed to advance.

Adbi looked in a strong position at the bell towards the front of the pack but those around him managed to enjoy a strong finish.

And the Algerian-born 34-year-old clipped the final hurdle to see him stumble slightly, surrendering fourth place – which would have seen him progress - in the home stretch before eventually crossing the line sixth.

The result means Abdi will not compete in Sunday’s final.
