SPECSAVERS Evesham and District Table Tennis Association Division One leaders Bengeworth Lions suffered their first defeat of the season.

They lost to title rivals Littleton Positives 6-4, despite Lions’ Jaspreet Singh maintaining his season's unbeaten record in the singles.

But Positives’ Doug Payne and Yann Berthelemy each won two out of three singles.

Jack Davis and Singh came close to securing a draw for Lions when they went 1-0 up in the doubles but Berthelemy and Nick Mytton fought back to win in five sets.

Positives were also involved in a rearranged fixture with Kington Blades and Mytton put in an impressive performance, winning all three singles against tough opposition.

However, the Berthelemy and Mytton combination was unsuccessful in the doubles on this occasion as Blades’ John Price and Alan Cotton triumphed in five sets to salvage a 5-5 draw.

Blades are currently in fourth place but, with games in hand, they could be the strongest challengers to Lions at the top.

Elsewhere, Littleton club coach Ken Baker was back in action for the first time this year and he registered three straight wins for Clubs in their 9-1 victory over Kington Bulldogs.
