PERSHORE Swimming Club secured a record medal haul at the Worcester County Championships with Vale neighbours Evesham also impressing.

Twelve more age group titles and 35 medals were added by Pershore on the second weekend to make it 23 golds, 26 silvers and 16 bronzes.

Evesham grabbed four medals, 34 personal bests (PBs) and 38 top 10 finishes in Wolverhampton.

For Pershore on the first day, Isabella Woodcock, 11, defended her 100-metre breaststroke title with a Midlands qualifying time and won the 50m too.

Simon Sweatman swept the board in the boys’ 11-year-old age group with 16 golds from as many events events across two weekends.

He won the 200m backstroke in two minutes 33.97 seconds with club-mate William Gearey coming second despite a Midlands qualifying time.

Sweatman added 100m breaststroke gold with Gearey as runner-up again and the one-two was repeated in both the 50m breaststroke and 200m butterfly.

Patrick Heeks won the 10 years 200m backstroke in 2.54.05 and secured bronze in the 100m freestyle, while Megan Annis claimed the 10 years 50m breaststroke gold.

Annis and Hannah Woodcock bagged silver and bronze respectively in the 50m freestyle with Jasmine Franks adding nine years 50m freestyle bronze.

The battle continued between Annis and Hannah Woodcock, claiming silver and bronze respectively in the 200m individual medley.

Annis also secured 100m freestyle bronze and Charlotte Downey collected bronze in the 10 years 400m backstroke.

Harry Sykes added silvers in the 16 years 100m and 50m breast stroke.

The second day saw Sweatman and Gearey continue their battle with the former winning the 50m freestyle in 29.29 ahead of his second-placed club mate.

The 40m freestyle also saw success for Sweatman in 4.59.82 with Gearey not far behind in another Midland qualifying time.

Despite Gearey producing pbs, he had silvers in the 200m individual medley and 100m freestyle with Sweatman winning both.

Annis continued her success with silvers in the 200m backstroke and 100m breaststroke before winning the 50m breaststroke in 43.77.

Isabella Woodcock secured 11 years golds in the 100m breaststroke in 1.27.00 and 50m breaststroke in 39.47. Franks added nine years 50m breaststroke silver.

Beth Carter produced her first Midlands time in the 14 years 100m breaststroke to secure bronze and made the open final.

Evesham enjoyed success too with Mollie Cresswell taking silver in the nine years 200m butterfly in 3.59.74 and Sophie Pettit bronze in the 50m breaststroke in 49.67.

Along with Rachel Egan, the trio set 14 new pbs and achieved 13 top 10 finishes, including six top five.

Georgie Banton grabbed a top-10 finish in the 11 years 50m freestyle, while Heather Castle and Rosie Denning impressed in the 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke respectively. Twelve-year-old Amy Cooper set three new pbs with top 10 finishes in the 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly where she was fourth.

Martha Bailey collected bronze in the 13 years 100m freestyle in 1.06.52 before finishing fourth in the 200m backstroke and 50m freestyle.

Hannah Dufty did well in the 14 years 100m freestyle, while Melissa Humphrey, Mollie Hardwick and Chloe Mabbett, all 15, secured four top-10 finishes between them against 16 year olds.

Katie Price, 16, set pbs in the 50m and 100m breaststroke with a top-10 finish in the latter.

For the boys, Sam Parker, nine, showed promise in the 200m backstroke and Kieran Cooper set three new pbs with eighth in the 10 years 200m backstroke.

Oliver Foster competed well in the 100m freestyle and Luke Perry, 11, finished in the top 10 in six events, including fourth in the 200m backstroke and sixth in the 200m individual medley.

Toby Vale, 11, finished in the top 10 in the 200m individual medley and backstroke.

Charlie Waites, 14, added a 50m freestyle silver in 27.3 alongside top-five finishes in the 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke.

Jill Biddle who previously left her post as head coach earlier in the year, returned as coach for the weekend.

Evesham head to the final county weekend in Hereford with Amy Cooper tackling the 800m freestyle.
