THREE young Pershore Swimming Club prospects travelled to Hereford for the last weekend of the Worcester County Championships.

Josh Sharratt, Chris Vizard and Isobel Cumming qualified for the gruelling 800-metre freestyle and the trio put in brave performances.

Sharratt produced a 28-second personal best in the boys' 12 years event to snatch bronze in 11 minutes 11.71 seconds for his first county medal.

Vizard was not too far behind Sharratt, clocking 11.16.83 for a 20-second pb.

Cumming went for Pershore in the girls' 11 years event and swam 12.19.83 to finish fifth.

Meanwhile, Pershore grabbed a crucial second spot in the Worcester Winter League second round at Bromsgrove.

The end result saw a win for Worcester 'A' (197 points) ahead of Pershore (160), Halesowen (150), Redditch (140) and Haden Hill (133), The town started well with a second place for the mixed 11 and under medley relay team.

Hope Rochelle and Michael Evans recorded good times in the 15 and under 100m freestyle but finished just outside a podium finish.

Naomi Marsden was third in the 13 and under 100m backstroke in 1.18.95 and Simon Sweatman finished first in the boys' equivalent in 1.12.84.

Katie Sharratt and Angus Jones just missed out on the top three in the open 100m butterfly.

Megan Annis was edged into second in the 11 and under 50m freestyle in 33.26, while William Gearey grabbed first place in the boys' equivalent in 30.91.

Amy Weston and Josh Sharratt swam up an age group in the 13 and under 100m butterfly, finishing third and second in 1.23.63 and 1.25.54 respectively.

Katie Sharratt produced 1.19.83 to take third in the open 100m backstroke and Jones managed fourth.

In the 11 and under 50m backstroke, Marsden recorded 35.83 to win, while Sweatman claimed the boys' equivalent in 35.01.

Isabella Woodcock and Vizard were both second in the 13 and under 100m breaststroke in 1.29.65 and 1.34.29 respectively.

Cumming was second in the 11 and under 50m butterfly in 41.59 and Sweatman won the boys' race in 33.82.

Beth Carter was second in 1.23.55 in the 15 and under 100m breaststroke.

The 13 and under mixed medley relay team celebrated a winning time of 1.44.74.

Woodcock and Gearey won in the 11 and under 50m breaststroke in 40.64 and 41.40 respectively.

Jasmine Taite was third in the 13 and under 100m freestyle in 1.12.39 and Gearey bagged the boys' contest in 1.07.70.

Carter, 14, then swam in the open 100m breast stroke and secured an impressive third in 1.25.20.

With just the relays left, Pershore were second in the mixed 11 and under 6x25m freestyle relay in 1.34.30.

The performance of the night was by the mixed 13 and under 6x25m freestyle team who romped home first in 1.31.68.
