AN Evesham Rowing Club duo have secured Great Britain squad spots for the prestigious Munich Junior International Regatta.

Liam Tustin and Matt Newman attended trials in Nottingham and will head to Germany for the big competition next month.

The pair also joined Evesham's Patrick Sullivan, James Mackins and cox Imogen Dalivalle in winning the junior four at the Schools Head of the River on the Thames.

They are now set to go to the National Schools Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta this summer.

More than 300 crews took part and Evesham were among those setting off in a mini-storm.

Rowing from Barn Elms to Hammersmith bridge was the toughest racing the crew had faced with waves breaking over the boat.

Coach Bill Sullivan said: “The crew were gutsy to maintain their pace through diabolical conditions."

Meanwhile, Evesham Regatta is set for a full entry on May 3 and 4.
