A TEAM of men and women from Bourton Roadrunners won the Cotswold Hilly 100 relay race.

The 25-year-old event opened up the prizes for the first time to mixed teams, who needed at least three women in a group of 10 running a 10-mile leg.

Bourton started out from Stratford at 6am and snaked their way through the most challenging Cotswold hills to Chedworth and back, completing the course in 12 hours two minutes.

The stand-out display was by captain Ewen Smith, who supplied water to runners during the hot day before doing the final leg in one hour two minutes.

The other runners were Rob French, Tony Goodwill, Darren Long, Lucy Walmsley, Dennis Walmsley, Ian Shoemark, Naimh Shoemark, Chris Dry and Ali Lane. Kenilworth Runners won the men’s and women’s events.

Bourton are taking entries for the 12th running of the Humph’s Hilly Half Marathon on Saturday, June 14, at 6pm.

The race follows a single loop, starting and finishing in Bourton-on-the-Water after going through Clapton, Sherborne, Windrush, Great Barrington and Great Rissington.

Entries can be made by downloading an entry form from bourtonroadrunners.co.uk or via the Runners World website.

Bourton juniors ran the Gloucestershire Track and Field Championships at Blackbridge, Gloucester, in warm, sunny conditions over 600 metres for under 11s and 1,500m for the others.
