CHIPPING Campden opened their West Clubs Women’s Hockey League Severn Division Two season with a 5-1 win over promoted Bretforton seconds.

The hosts took the lead with two short-corner goals in the first 15 minutes at Evesham High School.

With a young squad, Bret found it difficult to get a foothold against their more experienced opponents.

But Alice Cook made an immediate impact with a goal after a swift move involving Ness Dufty and Lisa Davis.

Bret defenders Lesley McKinnon and Nat Benwell linked up well with midfielders Lucy Cole and Hannah Dufty, while Jemima Hutchison defended solidly at left-back.

But Campden scored three more goals in the second-half despite Bret’s new keeper having a good game.

Cook, Ness Dufty and Cole all went close to pulling one back.

Campden visit Gloucester fourths on Saturday and Bretforton host Gloucester thirds.
