PERSHORE earned their first West Midlands League Division One win of the season with a 5-3 triumph at Yardley.

Man of the match Rob Smith and Jake Downey started strongly in midfield with Russ McGettagan tapping in at the back post.

Smith’s effort was saved but Russ Scudamore unleashed an stoppable shot on the rebound.

But Pershore sat back and Yardley made it 2-2 by half-time.

A short corner was converted by Gareth Rushton to put Pershore back ahead but he then had a penalty flick saved.

Poor defending allowed another equaliser but Pershore won through captain Scudamore’s strike and Ed Deacon’s finish after Smith’s lob over the keeper.

The seconds drew 2-2 with West Brom for their first Division Two point of the season.

Gavin Pugh blasted in a first-minute opener and Graham Handley added a second but West Brom hit back before levelling three minutes from time.

Pershore women lost 3-2 at home to fellow strugglers Harborne fourths in Worcestershire League Division One despite an improved display.

Kate Adams slotted home Emma Gardner’s pass but Harborne led 3-1 by the break.

Gardner scored in the second-half but Pershore were otherwise missing the final touch.

Meanwhile, Evesham and Badsey lost 6-3 at Oswestry in West Midlands Division One despite a stunning start.

Their movement blew the hosts away in the first 15 minutes as they raced into a 3-0 lead.

Stuart Bearcroft converted a Mark Sadler cross before Matt Grumball scored twice after good work from Dave Trevarrow.

But the visitors lost their shape as gaps in the defence were exploited by two quick goals.

Oswestry’s fast forwards grabbed two more on the counter-attack before half-time.

Evesham and Badsey improved in the second period but failed to test the keeper again while shipping another two goals.

The Badgers defeated Redditch 4-0 for their third consecutive triumph. Adam Haycock converted Connor Hill’s pass and scored again in the second period alongside strikes from Harry Britten and Michael Macleod.

They also beat Leamington 10-0 through Edward Betteridge (3), Tom Perry (2), Hill (2), Hannah Dufty and Dan Smith.

Bretforton slumped 6-0 at West Clubs Women’s League Premier Division 2A leaders Swindon.

Keeper Vicky Watkins missed her first league game in five years and stand-in Heather Carr did well but could not prevent four goals before half-time.

Swindon’s pace and movement led to two more goals with Bret failing to make the most of Emma Lowe’s dangerous cross.

The seconds won their first Severn Division Two game of the season, beating Cirencester seconds 2-1.

A deflection allowed Cirencester to go ahead but Andrea Cole levelled from Hannah Dufty’s cross by half-time.

Bret enjoyed more of the second-half and Cole scored the winner at the second attempt from Ness Dufty’s centre.
