TWO Evesham boys got their campaign off to a flying start with a double win for Stratford-upon-Avon and District Boxing Academy.

Thirteen-year-old Jordan Lee boxed for the first time this season against Peter Riley, of Small Heath.

Lee was skilful and dominant in the opening and closing rounds, winning on a split decision.

Fourteen-year-old Jason Johnson boxed against George Lines from Banbury.

Due to injury, it was Johnson’s first bout in 17 months and he was eager to get into the ring.

He came through with a comfortable unanimous decision.

Head coach Mat Pickering said: “It was a great performance from Jordan.

“He boxed superbly early on behind the jab and the second round was closer but he went back to boxing in the third.

“Jason has come back in sensational fashion. He trains hard for every bout but fights even harder.”

Johnson, Lee and his twin brother Jake are dedicated members of the academy team, training three times a week.

Jake Lee is hoping to kick off his season soon as well.

The academy is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
