COTSWOLD star The New One cemented his position as a strong Champion Hurdle contender by impressing at Haydock.
An unlucky third at Cheltenham Festival in March, the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained six-year-old (1-3 favourite) maintained his unbeaten start to the new campaign by easily taking the valuable Betfair Price Rush Hurdle over two miles.
The Naunton trainer said: “Everything went right and the next stop is Cheltenham (for the International). He’ll be entered for the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton, too.”
According To Trev (10-1) won the Read Paul Nicholls Exclusively On Betfair Handicap Chase for Stow-on-the-Wold trainer David Bridgwater and jockey Tom Cannon.
The closing bumper at Haydock the previous day went to Chipping Norton handler Charlie Longsdon’s Midnight Shot (evens favourite) in the hands of Charlie Deutsch.
Longsdon also enjoyed success in a three-mile handicap chase at Ascot through Grandads Horse (10-1).
