VALE swimmer Sophie Pettit had resounding success in the Northgate PB Buster at Wolverhampton Central Baths.

She took home five gold medals, a silver and a bronze medal and set seven personal best times after entering nine events.

Sophie, who swims with Worcester, improved her qualifying times for next year’s Worcestershire County Championships in all the events in which she set new personal best times.

She has gained qualification for the other two events that she took part in at the open. In her favoured breaststroke events, Sophie took a clean sweep of gold medals.

In a closely fought 50m event, Sophie set a new personal best of 45.90 to take first place, while in the 100m and 200m events she was the clear winner with new personal best times of 1:40.01 and 3:33.63 respectively.

In the 200m, Sophie won gold with a new personal best time of 3:16.42 before taking medals in three backstroke events. In the 200m backstroke Sophie took gold in a new personal best of 3:11.70 and followed it with silver in the 100m after recording 1:31.88. She struck bronze in the 50m backstroke in a time of 43.86. In the freestyle events, Sophie set a new personal best of 2:58.25 in the 200m and 1:24.23 in the 100m.

Sophie’s dad, Lee, said: “We have moved clubs to Worcester as Sophie was dual clubbing and keen to push herself.”
