CROPTHORNE trainer Tony Carroll enjoyed his first winner of the new year with a Surrey success at Lingfield.
Four-year-old Boom The Groom beat Firmdecisions by a neck in the Unibet Offer Daily Jockey/Trainer Specials Handicap under jockey William Carson.
The 3-1 second-favourite has enjoyed three wins on the Flat with victory at Wolverhampton and four second places in the previous five races with Carson.
Carroll had a third position with Queen Aggie (8-1), partnered by George Downing, in the Download The Ladbrokes App Handicap at Lingfield.
The 57-year-old Vale trainer’s previous victory was on December 30 last year through promising five-year-old Admirable Art (6-1) in the Ladbrokes Mobile Handicap at the same track.
His last runner, The Yank (4-1), finished second on Monday in the Download The Coral App Handicap under Carson at Wolverhampton.
