EVESHAM’S Carl Fordham won a deciding game to claim the gold medal in the Under 17s Welsh Shuttle Series in Cardiff.

The Vale teenager played some of his best badminton this season in beating the tournament second seed while winning the group.

After losing just one group game, he progressed to the knockouts and won 21-17 in the semis to make the final against number one seed Brandon Evans.

Fordham was 14-11 down and fought back to game point but eventually lost 17-15. He controlled the second game 15-12 and then claimed the decider comfortably 15-7 to bag the gold medal.

Fordham, Adam Ayres, Henry Talbot and Craig Witheford took silver medals for Prince Henry’s High School, Evesham, in the Centre Parks School Games county round finals.

His brother, Antony Fordham, won a silver for St Egwin’s Middle School alongside Callum Bennett, Ben Cross and Jonathan Lyons.
