PERSHORE lost 1-0 at home to a well-organised Bromsgrove side in Worcestershire Women’s League Division One.

A close, hard-fought match saw chances for the mid-table rivals go begging.

Bromsgrove’s goal came towards the end of the first-half after a burst of pace, despite fine defending from Emily Capaldi and Sam Witherford.

Pershore started the second-half brightly and could have levelled when Gemma Pinney hit the post.

The men are still struggling to find form after the Christmas break, losing 2-1 at home to Leamington in Warwick Printing West Midlands Division One.

They dominated early on as Russell McGettigan and Anthony Handley went close before skipper Russell Scudamore finished off good work from Liam Ridings and Karl Lawson.

But Leamington, one place below the Vale side in fifth position, soon equalised and came out firing on all cylinders in the second period.

A strong defensive effort from Mike Doust and Andy Gardner kept them out, along with a fine save from keeper Jack Leech, but Leamington eventually struck a second goal.

Ed Deacon missed a penalty flick for a sloppy Pershore outfit and McGettigan fired a chance over.

Pershore host county rivals Droitwich on Saturday.

The 10-man thirds won 3-0 at Old Silhillians despite captain Gavin Pugh suffering an injury after five minutes.

Ed Barker and John Sharratt performed well but it was Alex Brown who opened the scoring after running through the defence to finish deftly.

Barker slotted in at the far post from Jason Brown’s square ball before Old Sills were kept out in the second-half by spirited defending.

Brown robbed a defender on halfway and burst forward to complete the scoring for the new Fathoms League leaders.

Meanwhile, Evesham impressed with a 3-0 home win over mid-table rivals Newtown in Warwick Printing West Midlands League Division One.

They visit second-placed Bloxwich on Saturday.
