PERSHORE Hockey Club enjoyed a weekend of convincing wins in county derbies.
The men thrashed Droitwich 5-0 in West Midlands Division One, while the women triumphed 3-0 at Redditch in Worcestershire Women’s League Division One.
Captain Russ Scudamore opened the scoring for the men from a tight angle and then Russ McGettigan tapped in Gareth Rushton’s pass at the back post.
Keeper Jack Leech and Rushton kept Droitwich out before Scudamore thundered home a third goal in the second-half.
He sealed his hat-trick with a short-corner strike from a pass by Ed Deacon, who completed the scoring after a fine run from Karl Lawson. Pershore visit leaders Old Wulfrunians on Saturday.
The fourth-placed women went ahead near the end of the first-half through Emma Gardner’s reverse-stick shot following a patient build-up.
Keeper Lucy Jeffs and defender Emily Capaldi denied Redditch in the second period before Kate Adams extended Pershore’s lead from Emma Millichap’s pass.
Gardner added a third with a solo run from midfield for Pershore, who host local rivals Evesham and Badsey on Saturday and visit Harborne fourths on Sunday.
