PERSHORE will send a record number of competitors to the Worcester County Championships at Wolverhampton over the next two weekends.

Thirty-five swimmers qualified for the age-group competition and two made the masters championships with 276 individual events in all.

Six are to make their county debuts, including Lewis Cribben, James Heeks and Gabriella Barry, all nine, Amelia Gearey, 10, Caitlin Yates, 11, and Owen Kirby, 11.

Pershore won 23 age-group gold medals at last year’s county championships and Megan Annis, 11, Patrick Heeks, 11, Simon Sweatman, 12, and Isabella Woodcock, 12, look to defend various titles in 2015.

Helen Annis and Marie Porter compete in all the masters’ 50-metre sprint disciplines.

Meanwhile, Pershore siblings David Annis, nine, and Lauren Annis, 10, secured nine medals at the Boldmere junior invitation meet.

A 27-strong squad tackled the development meet at Birmingham’s 25m Stechford Cascades pool.

The medal rush for the Annis family began with 100m individual medley bronze for Lauren (one minute 32.37 seconds) and silver for David (1.38.33).

David picked up bronze in the 25m breaststroke (25.69) and silver in the 25m butterfly (19.89). His older sister secured bronze in the 50m breaststroke (46.84) and the 25m butterfly (19.12).

There were victories for both in the backstroke with David taking gold in the 25m (20.52) and Lauren winning the 50m (40.71).

David finished with silver in the 25m freestyle (17.62).

Caitlin Yates snatched silver in the girls’ 11 years 50 breaststroke in 43.90.
