PERSHORE won 5-3 at Vale rivals Evesham in Warwick Printing Hockey League West Midlands Division One.

The hosts were pinned in their own half early on and Russ McGettagan scored first from Anthony Handley’s fine cross.

Ed Deacon buried a ferocious-short corner strike but Evesham struck twice in reply.

Handley linked up with McGettagan before dispatching a reverse-stick shot. Third-placed Pershore found another gear in the second period with a string of chances before Handley swooped again.

Andy Gardner and Mike Doust defended well for the visitors but a fine solo effort made it 4-3.

But Pershore had the final word with Rob Smith finding Russ Scudamore to score the fifth. Ed Betteridge, Simon Chatterley and Marcus Humpston netted for Evesham.

Pershore host Oswestry at Prince Henry’s High School, Evesham, on Saturday (1.30pm), while mid-table Evesham visit Droitwich.
