FORMER Evesham Wheelers rider Ben Stockdale finished second in the club’s Kanes Foods Vale road race.
The elite event covered 62 miles over 4.5 laps of an undulating course, starting from Inkberrow.
On a cold, overcast day for the 70-strong field, the race hotted up on the final lap, when a seven-man break formed for a sprint finish.
David McGowan (Pedal Heaven RT) won by a tyre’s width from Lower Swell-based Stockdale (SportGrub Kuota) with Dale Appleby (NFTO) third.
The main bunch followed more than a minute later, after a crash saw Witney’s Ben Carty taken to hospital.
