BRETFORTON may be facing relegation but they battled to a fine 0-0 draw on the coast at Swanage and Wareham.

The bottom-of-the-table West Clubs Women’s Hockey League Premier Division ‘2A’ side showed grit and determination after a long journey.

Meanwhile, seventh-placed Pershore finished their Worcestershire Women’s League Division One season with a 4-2 defeat at Tenbury.

An uncontrolled pass led to an opener for Tenbury but Pershore levelled through Kate Adams from a tight angle after Dani Cook’s pass.

Emma Gardner and Nicki Sheppard were lively up front but Tenbury tackled well and finished well to regain the lead.

Gardner smashed home to level again from a solo run but Tenbury battled well in the second period to win with two quick goals, despite the efforts of keeper Lucy Jeffs.

Pershore secured third place in West Midlands Men's Division One with a 5-3 victory over Oswestry.

Goals from Liam Ridings and Gareth Rushton put them in control but Oswestry fought back to 2-2 with fine running and skilful play.

Ridings struck again in the second-half from a Jake Downy pass and Rob Smith capitalised on a keeper error before slotting home.

Oswestry replied from a short corner but Smith struck again to complete the scoring ahead of Saturday’s visit to Whitchurch.

The seconds crashed 6-0 at Wolverhampton, and the in-form thirds fell 3-0 at Droitwich after fielding just 10 men.

Gary Stevenson, Mike Handley and Pete Moreby were busy in defence as was keeper Phil Steers.

Matt Hartwell threatened at the other end in his first game.

Mid-table Evesham won 2-1 at Droitwich in West Midlands Division One.

They host leaders Old Wulfrunians on Saturday in their final league game of the season.

Second-from-bottom Evesham and Badsey lost 4-1 at home to Bromsgrove in Worcestershire Women’s League Division One.
