IAN Tait was the runaway winner of Evesham Golf Club seniors’ winter league.

The rare brace of hole-in-ones during the last round by Bryan Rogers and Mike Abraham rather overshadowed the end results.

Starting in October, only one of the 10 scheduled days was lost to bad weather.

Tait’s best five rounds totalled 197 stableford points off a handicap of 13.

Ian Facer was runner-up with 184, followed by Abraham in third place with 181.

The seniors’ winter eclectic competition was much closer with only one point separating the top three of Facer, Tait and Michael Hocking, who was third on count-back.

Meanwhile, Evesham men played their March medal and Ducs cup qualifier at a blustery Craycombe course with only the top three coming in with scores below par.

The experienced Geoff Insall won with 71 nett off his 11 handicap.

Second on count-back was Darren Nightingale, again playing off 11, with Derek Boocock third off 15.

Other knockout quarter-final qualifiers were Will James, Tony Smith and Gavin Griffiths from Division One and Mark Roberts and Pete Wragg from Division Two.

In extremely windy conditions, the ladies contested the first medal of the season.

Division One went to Melanie Evans with 76 ahead of Ruth Masters (84) and Joan Hunt (86).

Margaret Williams claimed Division Two with 84 followed by Jill Cleary (85) and Gill Smith (85).

Dee Machin took Division Three with 90 in front of Lesley Kewley (91) and Dinah Wood (94).
