PERSHORE Tennis Centre’s men’s ‘A’ team secured promotion to South Warwickshire All Season Winter League Division One.

They defeated title rivals Leamington ‘B’ in the final match of the season to go up as champions.

Fielding a strong team, which included coaches Steve Bauer and Mike Langston, the latter and Dave Lambert beat Guy Graham and Kewal Baden 6-1, 6-3.

Bauer and Jon Guppy had a tougher match against Ian Davison and Phillip Stummer, dropping the second set but finally winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

The same Pershore pair won their second rubber 6-3,6-0 to clinch the title, while Lambert and Langston claimed the final match through default due to injury.

The team had been bottom of the league in December without a win in their first five matches.

The ‘B’ team finished third in Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League Division Nine East, just missing out on promotion.

Pershore defeated Bewdley 4-0, Bromsgrove ‘E’ 3-1 and drew 2-2 with Belbroughton ‘C’.

The team comprised Dan Walker, Tom Adamson, Dave Morris and Bong Andales.

Pershore ladies ‘A’ team won promotion to Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League Division One.

They defeated Barnt Green 4-0 to secure their place in the top-flight.

Sarah McCormick and Polly Arnold won 6-3, 6-3, and 6-1, 6-1, while Rachel Prudden and Beth Excell triumphed 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-3.

Pershore under eight’s ‘A’ have been crowned county champions.

They held off HDA Redditch, David Lloyd Worcester and Bromsgrove to win the mini-reds title.

Toby Atkin, Briony Dando, Caoimhe Guppy and Aidan Reid were the successful players.

Against HDA Redditch, Guppy beat Caleb Ravenscroft 10-9 and Atkin lost the other match.

Dando and Reid won their two matches with ease, but Guppy and Atkin lost as Redditch made it 3-3.

Dando and Reid restored Pershore’s lead and Pershore won the doubles to take the first match 6-4.

A 9-1 victory over David Lloyd Worcester set up a title decider against Bromsgrove.

Level at 3-3 heading into the final round of singles, Reid and Dando both recorded victories and Pershore then claimed the doubles.

Pershore hosted coaching for children as part of a schools’ initiative funded by Herefordshire and Worcestershire LTA.

Evesham top Wildmoor Spa League South Warwickshire Junior Cup Pool ‘B’.

Ben Shepherd and Emmanuel Winston beat Chipping Campden ‘A’ 6-2, Campden ‘B’ 6-0 and runners-up Pershore 6-4.

Pershore’s Giles Lowbridge and Dan Fishbourne defeated Campden ‘B’ 6-0 and Campden ‘A’ 6-2.

Campden ‘B’ pair Harrison Costello and Jack Wiltshire surprised Campden ‘A’ pair Edward Meats and Will Smith 7-5.

In Pool ‘C’ at Bidford, Stratford dominated by beating the hosts 6-2, Littletons 7-5 and Ilmington 6-1.

Littletons duo Liam Clear and Calam Bennett saw off Ilmington 6-0 and Bidford 6-2.

Bidford’s Adam Farrow and Alfie Lovell defeated Ilmington’s Harry Cronshaw and Fred Barnhard 6-1.
