WORCESTER Athletic Club’s Tom Stock has become the youngest-ever winner of the Crowle Gunpowder Plot 10K charity road race.

Stock, aged 20, crossed the finishing line in 34 minutes, 26 seconds just 28 seconds ahead of his 17-year-old brother Dean, who took the runners-up spot.

Their dad, Michael Stock, also had a memorable day, winning the 50+ age category in 37.17 Worcester Athletic Club’s Camilla Barnes, aged 21, triumphed in the female section and finished only 26 seconds off the women’s 10k record, finishing in 36.30.

The race, in its 13th year, attracted record numbers of runners from across the country, with 649 entering the popular annual event.

A record-breaking 250 young runners also took part in the two fun runs held beforehand around Crowle’s playing field.

James Smith, from Black Pear Joggers, was third overall in 35.22, with Kate Wiltshire (39.54) taking the runners-up spot in the open women’s category from Malvern Joggers Megan Judge, who was third, in 43.31.

In the 60+ category, 63-year-old Derek Jackson, from Black Pear Joggers, claimed first place for a second successive year, beating his 2014 time by two minutes 34 seconds, and finishing in 40.25.

In the 40+ section, Kenilworth Runners’ Marc Curtis, 47, claimed the top honour in 37.59; Lynne Hill, from Tipton Harriers, took first place in the veteran woman 35+ category in 38.54.

Vikki Sivertsen clinched first place in the 45+ women’s veteran group in 42.04 and, in the 50+ veteran category, Pershore Plum Plodders’ triumphed in 42.50.

John Purves was the fastest runner from Bowbrook Parish in the 10k event, coming home in 41.14, with Katie Knott, the fastest local woman for the second successive year in 47.00.

Two hundred and fifty young runners competed in the two fun runs – 93 more than the previous year.

Eleven-year-old Ronan Williams was the winning boy in the under 16s mile, with Cameron Smy second and Seth Cooper third.

In the girls’ under 16s mile, Olivia Tonkinson was first home, followed by Estella Preedy and third-placed Emma Tillott.

Max Bryant triumphed in the quarter-mile fun run from second-placed Ollie Tranter, with Lewis Cribbin third.

Maia Jones won the girls’ quarter mile race from Abigail Prosser-Poole and third-placed Niamh Wild.

The proceeds from the day are likely to top £7,000, which will go towards improving social, educational and sporting facilities in the village as well as the children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent.

Around 80 residents of Crowle come together each year to make it happen and we are very grateful to all the sponsors who provided gifts and donations.”
