EVESHAM took over at the top of the Wildmoor Spa Men’s Tennis League Premier Division following a 4-0 defeat of Henley-in-Arden.

They lead on seven points after John Clarke and Chris Francis edged past Max Retallack and Brett McKay 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) before thrashing Matt Williams and Oli Didlick 6-1, 6-3.

Evesham’s Simon Wall and Andy Crowther beat Williams and Didlick 6-2, 6-0 and Retallack and McKay 6-2, 6-2.

Previous leaders Studley ‘A’ slipped to second spot after being held to a 2-2 draw by Alcester.

Ardencote Manor and reigning champions Stratford shared joint third after seeing off Studley ‘B’ 3-1 and Littletons 4-0 respectively.

Littletons’ Sean Witherford and Dave Rudge lost to Simon West and Will Morley-Cotteril 4-6, 6-3, 0-1 (6-10) and to Tim Page and Callum Bailey 1-6, 2-6.

Andy Reynolds and Richard Herborn fell to Page and Bailey 1-6, 4-6 and to West and Morley-Cotteril 2-6, 3-6.

Moreton-in-Marsh took over as Division One leaders on seven points after beating Claverdon 3-1.

Inkberrow defeated Aston Cantlow 3-1 to move up to fifth position.

Ardencote Manor ‘B’ top Division Two after a 4-0 victory over fifth-placed Shipston-on-Stour ‘B’.

HDA Redditch ‘A’ went up to second with a 3-1 victory over fellow high-fliers Inkberrow ‘B’.

Bottom sides Chipping Campden ‘A’ hosted Alcester ‘B’ with the visitors triumphing 3-1.

In Division Three, Ilmington lost 3-1 at home to Snitterfield ‘B’ and Campden ‘B’ slipped 3-1 to Studley ‘C’.

Bidford-on-Avon A lead Division Four along with HDA Redditch ‘B’ after beating Campden ‘C’ 4-0. HDA ‘B’ defeated Littleton ‘B’ 3-1 and third-placed Pershore ‘B’ saw off Moreton ‘B’ 3-1.

Mid-table teams Claverdon ‘C’ and Inkberrow ‘C’ drew 2-2.

Moreton ‘C’ are equal second in Division Five on points but were held 2-2 by Inkberrow ‘D’.

Wildmoor ‘B’ drew 2-2 at Shipston-on-Stour ‘B’, while Bidford ‘B’ beat Evesham ‘B’ 3-1.

Meanwhile, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Lawn Tennis Association are encouraging their clubs to make Great British Tennis Weekend a smashing success.

The nationwide initiative, staged across three dates over the summer, is encouraging clubs to stage open days and taster sessions so more people get the opportunity to try their hand at the sport.

Evesham are hosting the first one at their rowing club base this weekend.
