PERSHORE Swimming Club reached the PGL League final in Gloucester at the end of this month after finishing second in the fourth round.

They bagged 157 points to sit behind winners Northgate (163) on the night but ahead of local rivals Evesham (133) and Stourbridge (118).

Pershore, who won the first three rounds, got off to a good start through Jamie Saunders’ second place in the boys’ 13 to 14 years 50-metre butterfly in 36.81 seconds.

Charlotte Downey clocked 35.84 in the girls’ event but picked up a speeding ticket.

Leo Rendall-Baker was second in the 12/u 50m backstroke (41.39) and Sophie Thomas won the girls’ equivalent in 41.79.

Owen Kirby finished first in the 11/u 25m breaststroke (21.98) and Tara Smith pushed hard in 25.21.

Luke Drayton powered to Pershore’s third win in the nine years 25m freestyle in 19.52 with Martha Cross second in 19.12. Jamie West was third in the 13/14 50m backstroke (40.01) as was Jasmine Franks in 39.29.

The boys’ and girls’ 12/u medley relay teams both won, while Kirby clocked 17.30 in the 11/u 25m freestyle for third and Thomas was second in 16.64.

Oliver Smith took the 10/u 25m butterfly (20.62) but Amelia Gearey had a speeding ticket for her 19.49.

Josh Lester and Leah Saunders were third in the nine years 25m breaststroke in 30.51 and 33.08 respectively.

Roan Williams was third in the 12/u 50m breaststroke (47.92) but Holly Winkley picked up a speeding ticket for her 44.68.

James Heeks was second in the 10/u 25m freestyle (18.20), while Gabriella Barry triumphed in 17.40.

Lewis Cribben bagged silver in the nine years 25m backstroke (24.94) and Luke Perry finished first in the 13/14 50m breaststroke (41.11).

Winkley clocked 44.41 in the 13/14 50m breaststroke, while Jamie Saunders won the 12/u 50m freestyle (34.41), Tamara Marsden the 10/u 25m backstroke (21.90) and Josh Sharratt the 13/14 50m freestyle (31.92).

Helena Leach grabbed silver in the 13/14 50m freestyle (33.90) but Hamish Cross collected a speeding ticket in the 12/u 50m butterfly (36.70).

Rendall-Baker won the 11/u 25m backstroke (20.32) and Caitlin Yates was second in 19.84.

Marsden triumphed in the 10 years 25m breaststroke in 24.41 with Cribben and Martha Cross both second in the 25m butterfly.

Pershore won five of the 10 relay events with victories for the boys’ 13/14 freestyle relay team and the girls’ 10/u, 11/u and 12/u freestyle teams and 10x25m cannon group.

Meanwhile, Pershore’s 21-strong squad impressed at the Stourbridge open meet in Wolverhampton with medals and personal bests.

Sixth place: Martha Cross (girls’ nine years 50m backstroke, 47.41); Rendall-Baker (boys’ 11 years 50m breaststroke, 51.01).
