EVESHAM held their annual men’s club championships at a warm, breezy Craycombe Links course.

It was no surprise when England international Oliver Farrell, 18 and from Drakes Broughton, regained the title with a fine score of 142 from two rounds.

Barry Saggers was runner-up with 163 ahead of Steve Wood and Paul Callaghan (both 166).

The best nett prize for the Frank Swann Trophy saw Steve Protherough come out on top with 141 off his handicap of five, edging out Paul Sharp (11-142), Russell Leeming (12-143) and Lewis Ridley (13-144).

Meanwhile, 30 Evesham ladies braved the heat for a stableford, including new member Penny Bearcroft in her first competition.

Joan Hunt won Division One with 35 points followed by Melanie Evans (31) and Annie Bird (27).

Division Two went to Val Lemon (37) in front of Marlene Billings (35) and Dee Machin (34).

Angela Fletcher (29) took the Division Three honours ahead of Alison Scott (28) and Susan Taylor (25).

Meanwhile, 82 The Vale seniors enjoyed the best weather of the year for a four-ball individual stableford.

Nic Fielden claimed Division One with 36 points followed by Steve Kirby (36) and David Cowell (35).

Malcolm Armson (41) topped Division Two in front of Peter Causer (39), Bernard Rayner (37) and Patrick Staines (37).

Division Three went to David Rimell (39) ahead of Ian Taylor (39), Andrew Jinks (38) and Bryn Keast (38).

Nearest the pin on the fifth was John Bragg, while Tony Hampson scored a hole-in-one on the long, par-three 14th.

Fifty-five The Vale ladies played in the Karen Stupples Trophy in a Medford format.

Margaret McCaig and Pat Hird triumphed on 42 with Pauline Laight and Jenny Braithwaite (44) second and Shona Rollins and Jan Taylor (46) third.

Forty-three ladies competed in a medal with the Silver Division going to Rollins (93 gross 76 nett) ahead of Pauline Kay (94-77 on count-back) and Taylor (97-77).

Sue Simpson (97-73) bagged the Bronze Division on count-back from Janice Brown (98-73) with Pat Stone (100-75) third.

Penny Sharp (114-81) won the Copper Division on count-back from Susan Day (117-81).

The nine-hole stableford qualifier went to Candy Buchan with 12 points.

Harvington Golf Society members enjoyed glorious summer weather on their return to Wharton Park Golf Club.

In the morning practice round over 12 holes, Ian Tyrrell won with 26 points followed by Fitz Burton (23) and Warwick Holland (22 on count-back).

After lunch, Rob Millward’s 31 took third place and Terry Mead returned 34 to win the Councillors Cup for over 55s.

Securing the Challenge Plate in first place was match organiser Paul Harper on 36.

At Broadway, the Martland Trophy saw Pat Green and Rita Smith triumph with 74 nett followed by Lin Everitt and June Griffin (75) and Sonia Ward and Jude Vidler (76).

Jen Doran found her form in the ladies’ stableford, winning with 36 points.

In the men’s medal, Matt Magee took Division One with 69 nett from Jamie Andrew on 71 and the lowest gross of 74 .
