PERSHORE Swimming Club secured 23 medals and three awards in the Dukeries Open at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge centre.

Team-mates Simon Sweatman and Will Gearey faced each other in four events in the 12 to 13 age group in the 50-metre pool and shared the spoils.

Jasmine Hoskins, Amelia Gearey, Alexandra Barry, Patrick Heeks, Naomi Marsden and Chris Vizard claimed individual medals.

Barry, Will Gearey and Sweatman secured the prestigious top swimmer awards in their respective age groups.

In the girls’ 10 year group, Hoskins produced personal bests in all seven events.

She won a 50m backstroke bronze medal in 41.58 seconds, which was a 2016 county qualifying time.

Amelia Gearey snatched a bronze in the 50m breaststroke (47.91).

In the boys’ 12 to 13 year group, Sweatman edged out Will Gearey in the 100m backstroke (1.07.82) and 100m butterfly (1.08.20) to claim gold medals.

Sweatman also won the 50m backstroke (31.75) in the 13 to 14 year group as well as bronzes in the 50m butterfly (30.16) and 50m freestyle (28.08).

Will Gearey took gold in the 12 to 13 year 100m freestyle (1.01.22) with Sweatman second (1.01.67).

He also won the 50m breaststroke (36.95) and 100m breaststroke (1.21.32).

In the boys’ 11 to 12 year group, Vizard managed silver in the 100m breaststroke (1.24.03) and club-mate Heeks bronze in the 50m backstroke (35.68).

They both also finished fourth on several occasions.

Barry bagged gold in the girls’ 12 to 13 year 100m freestyle (1.07.24) and bronze in the 11 to 12 year 50m backstroke (35.70).

Marsden secured silvers in the girls’ 13 to 14 year 50m butterfly (32.39) and the 50m backstroke (34.50).

In the relays, Pershore’s Gearey, Sweatman, Vizard and Josh Sharratt won golds in the boys’ 14/u 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

The girls’ 11 to 12 200m individual medley team of Charlotte Downey, Jasmine Franks, Barry and Emily Drayton held on to bronze.

Gabriella Barry, Hazel Clay, Isobel Cumming, Macey French, Annie Garratt, James Heeks, George Howard, Olivia Howard, Cameron Leach, Helena Leach, Tamara Marsden, Sophie Thomas and Caitlin Yates also swam well.
