WORCESTER Swimming Club’s Tazmin Pugh has been lifted up to British Swimming’s world-class programme on podium potential level.

The Pershore 15-year-old is just below the top podium level reserved for world beaters such as Fran Halsall.

Pugh will have access to advanced training camps and competition opportunity, world-class sports science and medicine services and enhanced support from performance staff.

She is already mentored by Ellesmere College head coach Alan Bircher at the school she attends in Shropshire.

The swimmers on the programme will be encouraged to meet standards for the Rio 2016 Olympics and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Pugh recorded the fastest swim by a 15-year-old in the United Kingdom in becoming a double national butterfly champion at 200 metres and 100m at the English Schools’ Swimming Association Inter-Divisional Championships.

She also impressed for her Titans team in the National Arena League on her way to winning two individual and two relay events.
