EVESHAM Golf Club members tackled a wet, windy, winter morning in their mixed Christmas competition.

The players were wet and cold at the Fladbury course but the conditions did not deter their enthusiasm to enjoy 18 holes of golf.

Another group started the afternoon round and the weather was not quite as bad as earlier but still windy.

There were impressive scores in the conditions.

The captain’s team, consisting of John Machin, Pat Saville, Fraser Williamson and Lesley Curnock, won with a score of 82.

Second were Mike Callaghan, Annie Bird, Ken Hunt and Geoff Burton with 80.

Third were Richard Saville, Ruth Masters, Pete Lawrance and Lesley Kewley with 78.

The longest drive for the men was Mike Callaghan and for the ladies Anne Cowley.

Nearest the pin were Paul Callaghan and Jenny Marsden respectively.

The birdies prizes were won by Joan Hunt, Malcolm Boscott, Jill Cleary, Paul Callaghan, Annie Bird, Pete Lawrance and Jerry Cain.

There was also a presentation for the Frank Vincent Trophy, a knockout competition run through the summer and ending in October.

The trophy went to Martin and Annie Bird.

Twelve Evesham ladies ventured out in warm, cloudless conditions.

The tournament was played over 13 holes on the rarely-used Blue Course in a stableford format and the winner was Cleary with 28 points.

Twenty-eight ladies turned out for the first competition in 2016 on a dry day.

The format was greensomes and again played on the Blue Course over 13 holes.

The runners-up were Angela Fletcher and Kewley with 27 points and winners with 28 were Cleary and Marlene Billings.
