THE men’s section of The Vale held their winter league final.

Thirty-two teams qualified after playing five rounds during the winter and they were made up of two players playing better-ball stableford.

Play commenced at 9.30am with a shotgun start.

The course was in fantastic condition and without a breath of wind in the air players really attacked the course.

This resulted in some stunning scores with the winners Lance Hanna and Jay Brown coming out on top with 49 points.

They were followed closely by a number of teams including Gordon Keir and Joe Cornwall on 48 and Adam Flintham and Ben Hartley on 46.

After the event the men’s section proudly presented a cheque of £1,819 to Primrose Hospice which was raised during Steve McCullough tenure as men’s captain.

The next competition will see the summer season kick off with the first stroke-play event of the year on Saturday.

In fine spring conditions 52 ladies from The Vale enjoyed playing their first 18-hole competition of the year.

The greensomes format was won by Cheryl Wileman and Margaret McCaig with 32 points ahead of Clare Bunn and Rosie Shufflebotham on 30 and Fee Mitchell and Jacqui Cravos on 29.
