THERE were highs and lows for young Evesham driver Olly Turner in his BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship debut.

In fine spring weather at Brands Hatch, Kent, for the young racers aged 14 to 17 Turner, supported by Amber Motorhomes and Jordon RV, was among 15 juniors with half also on their debut outing.

He showed pace and lap times on the test day that would put him mid-pack.

Free practice was similar with promising times and good experience for the young racer.

The afternoon qualifying on new tyres was a disappointing one with a frustrating altercation into the gravel after lap one of the important timed laps.

Turner had to start at the rear of the grid for race one but after a late night correcting the #22 Goodsign.co.uk car and removing sizeable rocks from the radiator he was ready to overcome some rookie doubts.

He moved up two places before the first corner and gained good ground with the tyres starting to heat.

But his race ended on lap five as he lost all power and had to pull into the pit lane knowing something was wrong with the Fiesta.

The race was on to repair a drive shaft before the second race which was achieved thanks to Jam Sport Racing and his father Alec.

Samco Sport-backed Turner started at the rear again and by lap six passed four drivers and was on the hunt to gain ground on more experienced drivers up ahead.

With improving rhythm he found extra pace but an unfortunate clip of the grass caused Turner to spin losing all those places gained.

He set off again with half the race time left and moved ahead of two drivers to finish 10th.

Although dissatisfied with the result the team were happy with the race experience achieved in advance of rounds three and four at Cadwell Park on May 6 and 7.
