A PAIR from Littleton impressed in the second round of the Wildmoor Spa Tennis League Junior Summer Cup Competition.
Littleton’s A beat all-comers with Daniel Reynolds and Fraser Bennett defeating the other three sides in Pool B at Chipping Campden.
Reynolds and Bennett defeated Littleton B 6-1, Chipping Campden A 6-3 and Campden B 6-4.
The other three teams all won one match each as they in turn beat each other.
Campden A pair Tom Cox and Jack Theo defeated Campden B pair Harry Jeavons and Tommy Fyfe-Tur 6-4, but then lost to Littleton B boys Dan Baker and Robbie Clear 7-5.
Campden B recovered after their defeat to Campden A to beat Littletons B 7-5. The Pool B table shows Campden A second, Campden B third and Littleton B fourth.
Hosts Pershore dominated in Pool C with Toby Atkins and Sam Butts beating Evesham A 6-1, then Evesham B 6-0 and finally, current champions HDA A Redditch 6-3. HDA pair Tom Mumford and Caleb Ravenscroft remain second after they beat Evesham A 6-3 and Evesham B 6-1. Evesham A’s Joseph Wilson and Jamie Woodcock managed their single victory over club colleagues Evesham B’s Ashley Gibson & Matthew Pearce 6-3.
Evesham slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Henley-in-Arden in the four round of The Wildmoor Spa Men’s Tennis League.
Brett Mackay and Sam Turner (Henley) lost to hosts Chris Francis and Andrew Crowther (Evesham) 6-2, 6-1, but defeated John Clarke and Julian Heath (Evesham) 6-3, 6-2. Oli Didlick and Tom Griffiths (Henley) squeezed past Clarke and Heath after a Championship tie-break decider 6-3, 3-6, 1-0. They then beat Francis and Crowther 6-2, 6-3.
Moreton-in-the Marsh held Alcester A to a 2-2 draw. Skipper Brian Lomas and partner Greg Stotesbury (Moreton) lost to Marcus Powell and Charlie Watson (Alcester A) 2-6, 5-7, but then beat Alcester captain Duncan Robinson and Barney Williams 6-2, 6-1. Chris Elliott and Gary Jackson (Moreton) beat Robinson and Williams 6-4, 6-4, but lost to the Alcester first pair Powell and Watson 6-1, 6-1.
In Division One, Chipping Campden managed to retain their unbeaten record after drawing 2-2 with second placed Pershore.
Campden stay top of the table with 13 points while Pershore have nine points.
Shock of the week was in Division Two which saw leaders Henley B go down to Alcester C 3-1. Henley still lead with 13 points but now four teams, Inkberrow A, Alcester C, FISSC and Shipston-on-Stour have closed the gap. Shipston’s move upwards was thanks to an emphatic 4-0 victory over bottom side Studley B.
In Division Three, Chipping Campden B moved up to fourth after a 3-1 home victory against HDA B.
Newly-promoted Bidford A continued their recent form and stretched their lead in Division Four to four points. They now have a total of 16 league points. They defeated mid-table HDA C of Redditch 4-0, while Evesham B slipped to a 3-1 loss at Inkberrow C. Wildmoor Spa A are third after being held to a 2-2 draw by bottom placed Moreton-in-Marsh C.
Bidford B claimed their first win of the season to lift them off the bottom when they beat Moreton-in-Marsh B.
Shipston-on-Stour B remain top of Division Five, with 13 points, and Chipping Campden C are second with 10 points. Both teams dropped league points after drawing 2-2. Shipston drew at Henley C and Campden drew at Tysoe.
