WICKHAMFORD’S Tim Nobes has won Worcester Grasstrack Club’s Midland Centre Championship.
Offenham’s Scott Cresswell also had a good day in the competition near Chaddesley Corbett.
Both riders on their 500cc machines had three superb heat scoring rides to get themselves into the grand final at the end of a long day’s racing.
Nobes reached the final after a win and two second-placed finishes, while Cresswell had two seconds and a third place finish.
The final itself had to be re-run as the unlucky Cresswell was brought down by another rider on the second lap.
However, he bravely remounted to take his place among some of the best in the country, including the very impressive young speedway star James Shanes, the reigning European and British Champion from Dorset.
It was Shanes that made the gate and led until lap three when Nobes, who had been shadowing him, passed him on the inside to the delight of the home crowd.
Nobes held on to the lead during the last lap and took the big scalp of Shanes to secure his place on the top step of the podium.
Shanes crossed the line in second place with Warwickshire’s Ben Millichap in third.
Cresswell was just outside the top three, but must have been very happy with his unstinting efforts.
