A FUND-RAISING golf day for a football club in Shipston-on-Stour has landed an eagle after receiving a donation from Taylor Wimpey Midlands.

The local housebuilder donated £500 to an event being held in support of Shipston Excelsior FC.

The golf event, which will tee off on June 9 at Feldon Valley Golf Club, will raise funds for the club and the upkeep of facilities, says Simon Redshaw, a production manager for Taylor Wimpey Midlands, also a junior team coach at Shipston Excelsior FC.

“The club holds this special fund-raising day each year,” said Redshaw.

“We really rely on events like this to raise money for the teams and facilities.

“We aim to get as many teams and sponsors as we can involved in the golf day, which is one of the biggest events on the club’s calendar.

"We play all 18 holes of the course and we give prizes to competitors, such as longest drive, closest to the pin, and so on.

“In past years, we have raised about £2,000 for the club from the event but this year we are setting ourselves a tough target of £5,000.

"After receiving this drive from Taylor Wimpey, we are confident that we will meet it.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has agreed to support the event, including Taylor Wimpey – we couldn’t do it without them.”

Anne Wallace, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey, said: “As a local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our new homes. We were delighted to make this donation to Shipston Excelsior FC.”
