JAKE Astor finished second overall as a large contingent of Bourton Roadrunner (BRR) juniors took part in the Northleach Fun Run.

Astor was the first BRR junior runner home in an excellent 13:04.

George Quli and Michael Astor finished in joint third in an equally impressive time of 13:36 especially as both boys are only 11 and eight respectively.

Quli improved on his previous year’s time, by nearly 30 seconds and Michael certainly has a bright future in the sport, if he continues to train.

Emily Field was first lady and sixth overall in 13:42 with a strong run in the main event.

Lauren Farley was the second lady in 14:04 for 10th overall and beating her time from last year by nearly one minute.

Christopher Hunt continues to impress, despite coming back from injury with an excellent eighth place in 13:45.

It was an improvement from 16:20 the year before, although he lost his shoe 12 months ago.

The course, which was mainly off road, started and finished at Northleach Primary School.

It includes a demanding hilly section but finished with a long downhill section, on the road.

Twenty-five juniors took part in total and the runners well supported with Sean Farley 13th (14:17, 15:55 last year), Dougal Hamilton-Smith 16th (14:38), Callum Woolley 18th (15:15, 17:04 last year), Henry Everitt 19th (15:16), Arthur Quli 20th (15:19, 19:40 last year), Edward Jones 21st (15:21), Ella Davies 23rd (15:29), Harvey Sawyer 24th (15:37), Atticus Sinton 26th (15:41), Ella Gray 28th (15:43, 17:07 last year), Maite Capper 30th (16:04, 18:19 last year), Matilda Gorton 34th (16:21), Arlen Hartley 36th (16:47), Jacob Sinton 37th (17:10), Florence Cowell 38th (17:22), Lucas Hartley 40th (17:32), Daisy Keen 48th (18:46), Darcey Thompson 81st (21:55) and finally Isabel Dennett who injured herself but still finished in 84th (22:14).

Bourton members returned an impressive set of results with most beating their previous year’s time.

However, the conditions were slightly better than 12 months ago.

It was the second year the fun run was included in the club race championship competition and it will be included again.

A total of 122 runners took part.

Meanwhile, members of North Cotswold Tri & Run Club (NCTR) finished second in the team competition at the Bourton Hilly Half marathon last Saturday evening.

Kate Krzywiec was delighted to finish third lady and 1st FV40 with a time of 1:37:57.

Andrew Evans was next home for NCTR in 1:49:33 to finish 11th MV50.

Nikki Hitchcock ran superbly well to finish 3rd LV45 in 2:00:15 and Viv D’Alton gave her all to come home in 2:17:52 to claim seventh LV50.

Laura Williams ran her first race in NCTR colours at the Cheltenham 10k last Sunday recording a finish time of 64min.

Kelly Read ran her first race in NCTR colours in the Hampshire Hoppit Trail Half Marathon and had a nice surprise at the finish.

It was also Read’s first trail race and she won her first trophy.

She covered the extremely hilly course in 2:07:36 to finish 10th in her age category.

Read then discovered that she and her dad, who was also competing, had won the Go Farther Cup, which was a special award to mark Father’s Day.

Pauline Teague competed in the half Ironman Staffordshire 70.3.

She completed the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run in 6:42:50 for sixth place in her FV55 age category.

Commenting afterwards, the impressive Teague said: “It was slower than I hoped for but the heat was relentless.”

Marianne Badger also competed superbly in the Dambuster Olympic distance Triathlon at Rutland Water, Leicestershire.

She finished the 1.2k-swim, 40k-bike ride and 10k-run in 2:39 as the ninth lady home and the third in her age group in a very competitive and experienced field of triathletes.
