OLIVER Farrell has secured his place in the history books at Evesham Golf Club after clinching his eighth club championship.

The young amateur star dominated the field and won by a margin of 20 shots with an impressive total of 133, nine under par.

Farrell’s eighth club title eclipses the previous record of seven which had been set by Evesham legend Stuart Ridley.

Played over two days, 58 players lined up for 18 holes of medal golf to earn the honour of qualifying for day two when the prizes were decided.

Farrell led after the first round with a flawless 65, including six birdies and no bogeys.

The ever consistent Richard Curnock, with a gross 73 nett 66, was second to lead the chase for the Frank Swann Trophy awarded to the golfer with the best nett score over two days.

Curnock was closely followed in the nett competition by James Attwood and Tony Smith who both shot nett 67.

Sunday saw conditions perfect for golf and the scoring reflected this with some excellent returns, However, Farrell was not to be denied and secured the club trophy for an eighth time with a second round 68 and a championship record to make history.

Former champion Steve Wood, on 153, was second overall.

He finished ahead of Anthony Rock, on 157, and Michael Callaghan, in fourth, on 161.

Darren Nightingale, with score of 137, clinched the Frank Swann Trophy for the best nett.

Curnock, with 139, was second and closely followed by Kevin Stewart whose 69 on day two gave him a total of 144. Michael Haughtey, with 145, was in fourth place.
