THE Vale members had been practising in earnest for the return of the annual Chip and Fish competition which tested both their golfing and angling skills.

Golfing stableford scores were converted to weight after nine holes when competitors then drew for the top pegs on the prolific carp lake at The Vale.

After nine holes Rob Millward was leading with 20 points just one ahead of Ian Collings and Pete Weaver.

Last year's winner Mark Walters had it all to do with a score of 14.

But Walters used his knowledge to pole fish the margins and put 38lb of fish on the scales to return a winning score of 52lb.

Paul Beesley caught 25lb to finish second followed by Weaver who added 22lb to his stableford score.

Even those with dry nets enjoyed their day which will become an annual event at The Vale.
