LITTLETON Bowling Club held their annual federation day in sunshine and then thunderstorms with hail.

This did not dampen the spirits of the 28 competitors who were divided into pairs and then played a game loosely based on crown green bowls.

Fourteen pairs of contestants sent the jack across the green in any direction and then tried to get close to it without clashing with other players' jacks or bowls.

The difference of points for and against decided the winners.

With 16+ points winners Alan Beale and Doug Payne were presented with the Joe Newnham Federation Cup.

After successful coaching sessions Littleton are taking reservations for two new courses over six weeks on the indoor rinks in the autumn and spring for females and males who have never bowled before and would like to try the game.

They will be overseen by a qualified coach on Saturday afternoons for two hours with a nominal cost.

Flat footwear is required but the club will supply all other items free of charge.

There is a limit on numbers so people can book a place by emailing via littletonbowlingclub.co.uk or calling Dave on 01386 832421.
