MIKE Tustin grabbed the first podium finish of his maiden Ducati TriOptions Cup campaign at the eighth attempt at Silverstone.

Despite a disappointing 25th in qualifying, the rain came down on lap three of the opening race but Tustin gambled and remained on dry tyres due to the high track temperature.

It paid off as he picked off most of his rivals en route to a third-placed finish in which he set the second quickest lap time, putting him on the front row of the grid for race two.

Things did not go to plan from there as a downshifter problem saw him limp home in 15th, albeit in a point-scoring position.

The results send Team MTR into the final round in Assen, Netherlands tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.
