TWO mixed Christmas competitions were contested at Evesham on the same day.

On a mild morning with unexpected rain, 20 players set off in teams of three for a shotgun start.

The winners were Ian Tyrrell, Granthan Speake and Carol Yates with 80 points.

They were followed by Phil Wheeler, Stuart Berry and Jenny Masser with 78 and Alan Dufty, Jill Cleary and Steve Deaking with 75.

Hoping for better conditions, the later shotgun start had 30 players.

After an hour they encountered light rain for the rest of their round.

The winners were Geoff Wellens, Marlene Billings and John Hutcheon with 88 stableford points.

Second with 87 on countback were Mark New, Jerry Cain and Jean Bevan from Ruth Masters, Stephanie Bartlett and Dave Mullett.

Birdies were by Wellens on the 13th, Will Sellar on the sixth, Richard Curnock on the 14th, New on the seventh and 14th, Mike Abraham on the sixth, Lee Lambourne on the 16th and Geoff Insall on the first, 15th and 17th.
