LITTLETON Clubs moved to the top of Evesham & District Table Tennis Division One with an impressive 8-2 victory over Wyre Elite.

The match saw 17-year-old Craig Witheford beat Wyre Elite’s previously undefeated number one Matt Hartwell in straight sets.

Clubs’ Steve Cull and John Taylor both lost to Hartwell but beat Darrell Wiltshire and Lee Wilkinson. Witheford and Cull saw off Hartwell and Wilkinson in the doubles.

Littleton Positives slipped to second place after a 6-4 defeat by JLM Owls.

Luke Moffat retains his 100 per cent record following a 3-1 win over Positives’ top player Nick Mytton.

After this week’s slip up from Hartwell and having already defeated Witheford earlier in the season, Moffat will be hoping this is the year to become individual champion.

Chris Lane also had a good night for Owls as he lost to Mytton before defeating Doug Payne and Rob Sinderberry.

Owls went into the doubles 5-4 up with Positives looking for a win to tie the result.

But Moffat and Lane ensured the victory for Owls by beating Mytton and Payne 3-1.

Littleton Aces had an 8-2 win over Bengeworth Purple with Saulius Breitaris was starring with three straight sets wins.

Andrew Taylor and Dave Bevington both beat Purple’s Bob Bryant and Aileen Philips but lost to Dougie Allan.

Bottom team JLM Sunrisers slumped to their ninth straight defeat as they were beaten 10-0 by JLM Hawks.

Some of the contests were closer than the final score suggested with Sunrisers’ Mandy Sylvester notably going two sets up against Barbara Szeligowska before her opponent fought back to win.

Stef Mytton looked to have turned his match against Hawks’ Mark Hale when he levelled from two sets down, only to lose the final set 11-5.

RESULTS: Kington Bulldogs 5 JLM Dragonflies 5, JLM Sunrisers 0 JLM Hawks 10, Bengeworth Purple 2 Littleton Aces 8, Littleton Clubs 8 Wyre Elite 2, JLM Owls 6 Littleton Positives 4.
