BREDON Hill Academy’s girls are through to the Butterfly National School Team Championships table tennis regional finals.

Rebecca Arrandale, Sophie Arrandale, Emily Grove and Beth Pye were crowned Worcestershire under 13s and then zone final champions of Birmingham, the Black Country, Buckinghamshire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire. 

They won the two matches in their zone group 8-0, the semi-final 8-0 and the final 6-2 at Wood Green Academy, Wednesbury.

Bredon Academy defeated teams from the hosts, Holte School, Birmingham, Chesham Grammar, Sir William Romney’s, Tetbury, and North Leamington.

The girls from the Ashton-under-Hill school go into the regional finals on February 4 in Bristol.

For the under 13s boys, Harry Hawkins-Pitts, Harvey Gough, Danny Norman and Johnny Blakely from Blackminster Middle, Evesham, put up a determined effort in the Black Country but failed to reach the next stage.

The same school were also represented by under 11s girls Anna Blakely, Matilda Neale, Beatrice Yates and Scarlett Preen who lost 8-0 and 7-1.

St Egwin’s Middle’s Josh Robinson, Ollie Butler, Nathan Wall and Will Green went down 8-0 and 7-1 in the boys’ competition.

The under 16s boys of Alex Emms, Luke Fisher, Jon Lyons and Ali Witheford from Prince Henry’s High, Evesham, reached the semi-finals before going down 5-3.
