EVESHAM’S Alex Doherty aims to qualify and win a duathlon medal at the 2018 ITU Multi-sport World Championships Festival in Fyn, Denmark, in July.
Doherty, coached by Richard Goode at Goode2swim, claimed a 35 to 39 year gold at the British Duathlon Age Group Championship at Bedford Autodrome.
The race consisted of a 10-kilometre run involving four laps of the track, a 40km bike section and a 5km run.
Doherty, 35, was in 10th position after the first run but made it up to first after the cycling.
He finished in second place overall after an issue in the second transition which cost a lot of time.
Doherty said: “I’ve only been competing for two years and am just starting year three. So it’s early days and there’s much more to come.
“My target is to qualify and win a medal at the world duathlon championship in Denmark in July this year.”
