EVESHAM team Jones Dorling Racing have recruited two new riders alongside experienced Superstock 1000 ace Ashley Beech.

Radcliffe-on-Trent’s Cameron Fraser, the 2015 KTM junior champion, and Ewan Potter from Worcester are competing in the Superstock 600 Support Series of the British Superbike Championship.

The riders, both 18, are racing Yamaha R6s to complement the BMW 1000 ridden by 29-year-old Beech who has vast experience in all classes and battled in the Superstock 1000 series for the team for the last five years.

The team travelled to Donington Park for the opening round but due to the adverse weather conditions forecast knew it was going to be challenging.

Practice sessions were difficult due to heavy rain and for safety reasons the riders took it steady but this meant slower lap times.

The Superstock 600 race was brought forward.

Fraser had a good start and consistently improved his lap times throughout the 12 laps, battling through the field up into 10th from a grid position of 15th.

But tyre wear and brake issues meant he could not maintain his pace and finished 16th which was a solid start.

Potter, who has moved up from last season's Motostar class, had a good start with lap times tumbling.

He quickly began to suffer with severe arm-pump but finished the race 21st from his starting position of 25th.

Both riders said they had learnt a lot and gained experience in difficult conditions and felt the team worked extremely well together. They are looking to improve on a solid start.

Beech had a great qualifying session with lap times of 1.32 and was on pole position last lap when he slid off at Craner Curves.

He was unhurt but the bike suffered damage which meant the team had only three hours to repair and get it race ready before the two-part 100-mile race.

Beech started fifth on the grid but he struggled with the suspension from the start.

There was a flawless pit stop by the crew but Beech still struggled with the feel of the bike and pulled in.

The team worked through the night to fix the issues ready for the next race and were confident.

There were long delays with heavy rain flooding the track.

The warm-up was cancelled and then Beech had to retire on lap five due to cornering issues.

The team compete at Brands Hatch this weekend in the second round.

Team owner Chris Jones said: “We have the pace to run in the top five. Weather conditions and a crash held us up for Donington but we are ready for some better weather and a top finish at Brands this weekend."
