NORTH Cotswold Tri and Run’s Lucy Walmsley won the over 45 standard distance category at the British Triathlon Championships in Leeds.

The event also incorporated the world series and after a solid 1.5-kilometre swim she was fifth in her age group.

Walmsley flew around the busy 40km course for the second fastest bike ride of the day.

Another smooth transition meant she headed out for the 10k run leading her age category which she maintained until the end at the finish in Millennium Square.

Walmsley was eighth overall in two hours 20 minutes.

She holds two British triathlon titles in her age category having also been crowned British ironman distance champion last year.

Walmsley heads to Hever Castle, Kent, in a few weeks to try for a third at the British Half Ironman Triathlon Championships.

In marathon running, the club’s Steve Edwards continued to chip away at his world record attempt to run the fastest 1,000 marathons.

He was at Yeovil running his 825th where he finished third in his over 55 age category in 3.24.29.

It was Edwards’ 748th sub-3.30 finish and he will attempt a new 750 landmark record with two marathons planned in seven days.

Kate Krzywiec was third woman at the Fairford 10km in 40.31.

It was her first 10km race this year after injury.

Her daughters Chloe, seven, and Pippa, five, ran the 3km fun run in 16.08 and 18.34 respectively.

Nikki Hitchcock and Kelly Read took on the Bloodwise Blenheim Palace Triathlon consisting of a 750-metre swim, a 19.8km bike ride and a 5.7km run.

Read completed it in 1.35.42 for 32nd in her women’s over 35 category with Hitchcock doing 1.57.30 for 113th in her over 45 section.

Meanwhile, Stow-on-the-Wold’s Irish international Seanin Gilmore, representing Midlands squad Do3, won her age group and was in the top 10 women overall.
