SWIMMER Cameron Brodie returns to Evesham this weekend after winning a silver medal as part of a successful five-race Commonwealth Games campaign in Delhi.
The Aberdeen-born 18-year-old was only expected to compete in two events for Scotland but ended up taking part in five.
Despite being replaced in the line-up for the final of the 4x200-metre freestyle by rested team-mates, including gold-medalist Robbie Renwick, Brodie picked up a silver after Scotland finished second behind Australia.
He completed the final leg of the semi-final in this event as Scotland qualified in third before he was replaced for the final.
Evesham Swimming Club member Brodie also finished eighth in the semi-final of the 100m butterfly in a time of 55.390 seconds. This followed a fourth-placed finish in his heat in 56.200.
In a bonus event, Brodie was part of the Scotland squad who claimed fifth in the men’s 4x100m final in three minutes 40.680 seconds.
Brodie returned with the squad to Glasgow last Sunday and was back in the classroom at Kelly College, Tavistock the following day.
He comes back to Evesham, where he has lived since he was nine, this weekend.
Proud mother Mirren, chairman of Evesham Swimming Club, said: “Cameron has done very well, he did fantastic.
“We just expected him to do two butterfly swims, but he was asked to do three more relay races.
“It’s been a great experience going to something at that level.
“It gives him a taste and hunger for the next time he competes at a tournament.”
Earlier in the Games, Brodie nicked a fraction off his personal best but failed to progress to the 200m butterfly (2.16), ranking him 11th.
Elsewhere, he completed the final leg for Scotland in the 4x100m freestyle relay, finishing fourth in 3.26.140.
