NEW Zealand winger Bryce Heem will be joining Worcester Warriors at the end of the season.

The former All Blacks Sevens player is arriving at Sixways in the summer from Super 15 giants Waikato Chiefs.

The 26-year-old, who can also play at full-back, has impressed during this season’s Super 15 campaign, scoring a try on his debut in his side’s victory over the Blues.

Auckland-born Heem is also a team-mate of London Irish-bound Matt Symons, the brother of Warriors centre Andy Symons.

Heem said: “I am really looking forward to joining Worcester Warriors and linking up with my new teammates in England.

“I am excited about the prosenced wingers on Warriors’ books but have made just only one appearance between them in the Greene King IPA Championship this term.

Heem was an influential member of the All Blacks Sevens from 2011 to 2014, touring the world on World Series circuit and picking up a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

He began his career at hometown club Auckland and has also enjoyed a spell at Cambridge Blues, scoring five tries in 14 appearances.

He headed to the South Island to join the Tasman Makos in 2012 and established himself as a regular starter for the men from Nelson during their impressive 2013 and 2014 ITM Cup campaigns.

Speculation earlier this pect of joining a club which is progressing rapidly and I look forward to being a part of the side and playing a role in the long-term success.”

Warriors are well stocked in the wing department this term with Tom Biggs, Sam Smith and newcomer Cooper Vuna all starring on the flanks.

Smith has notched up 13 tries in 17 appearances, with Biggs bagging 12 touchdowns from 19 and Australia international Vuna scoring once in his two matches since joining the club.

Speculation on fans websites and social media had suggested the powerful winger, who stands at 6ft 4in, was on the verge of a move to Worcester.

In a response to a question last month about Heem, Ryan said: “I am fully aware of him and he does interest me, but so do another million players across the Super 15. Like with anything we would announce a signing when we feel it’s the right time.”

But Ryan today confirmed the capture of the Aucklandborn player.

“Bryce has demonstrated his talents in a number of competitions and is now hungry to realise his potential at a club which has significantly changed its direction over the last 18 months,” said Ryan.
