SKIPPER Nathan Chambers admits Evesham Rugby Club have a score to settle in Sunday’s North Midlands Vase final against Cleobury Mortimer (11.15am).

Evesham crashed to a 27-3 defeat at Cleobury when the teams met in the Midlands Junior Vase semi-final in February.

Chambers said Evesham’s players have enjoyed a break from action and can’t wait for the showpiece final at Dudley Kingswinford.

He continued: “The lads have enjoyed a couple of weeks off following a long season, so the squad is relatively injury-free and ready to go. Anticipation is high and I think everyone just wants to play the final.

“Without focusing on any individuals, the squad of 22 is well balanced and prepared because we have spoken at length about our individual and team roles for the day.”

Evesham clinched promotion from Midlands Four West (South) and sealed their place in the Vase final after a 21-14 success at local rivals Bredon Star.

They romped to a 57-9 win over Aldridge in the second round and had a walkover against Greyhound in the quarter-finals.

Chambers said: “Cleobury defeated us 27-3 and that semi-final loss was a bitter pill for us to swallow.

“We have great respect for our opponents but are fuelled by the knowledge we did not do ourselves justice in the previous fixture against them. Confidence is high and there are scores to be settled.”

Cleobury have just clinched the Midlands Four West (North) title and their skipper Will Bache says he is expecting “a tough game” on Sunday. They booked their spot in the final with a 57-0 win over Kings Norton.

They previously recorded a 55-7 win at Five Ways Old Edwardians and eased to a 17-0 success at Bishops Castle.

Chambers added: “The match on Sunday is expected to be immensely tough. It will involve two teams in good form on the back of a great season and it should be a great spectacle.

“We are not shying away from what we know will be a fierce contest, but we are more than eager to get on the field.”

“We last played in the North Midlands final in 2010, overcoming Yardley and District to be crowned champions.

“Since then, there are many new faces in our team who are looking to make their own mark in Evesham Rugby Club’s history books.”
