WORCESTERSHIRE were set a daunting winning target of 324 in LV= County Championship Division One at relegation rivals Nottinghamshire.

The consistent Jack Shantry was the pick of the County bowlers as a late burst of wickets took his figures to an impressive 35.4-13-48-5 on the hottest day of the year.

But Riki Wessels (55), James Taylor (56) and Chris Read (73) ensured a solid reply of 366 all out by the Trent Bridge hosts after conceding a first-innings deficit of 43.

The County saw off the final five overs of the third day on 13-0 through skipper Daryl Mitchell (2 not out) and Richard Oliver (11no).

Notts resumed on 115-3 and Joe Leach shipped 15 runs in his first two overs.

But Shantry did not concede a run until his fifth over when Wessels brought up the 150.

Taylor grafted away and upped the tempo with two sixes off Saeed Ajmal.

Shantry broke through when Wessels fell to a tumbling catch by Joe Clarke with the total on 174-4 after a stand of 105 in 35 overs.

Taylor was run-out by a throw from the boundary by Clarke with Notts on 201-5.

They fell to 234-6 when Samit Patel (31) was trapped lbw by Ajmal before Read and Brett Hutton produced a stand of 93.

Shantry's perseverance was rewarded, trapping Hutton (34) lbw after he played down the wrong line.

He struck again in his next over when Read, having hit seven fours off 122 balls, went for a pull and was bowled.

Ben Hilfenhaus (9) was undone by a Shantry ball and caught by first-slip Tom Kohler-Cadmore, deputising as 12th man for the concussed Alex Gidman.

The bowler took his fifth wicket when Luke Fletcher (7) was bowled via the inside edge.
