THREE members of Worcestershire’s 2014-2015 academy intake have been selected to play for an England development programme invitational XI against Australia under 19s.

Spinner Ben Twohig, paceman Josh Tongue and batsman Ollie Westbury will face the Aussies in a two-day game tomorrow and Friday at Loughborough National Cricket Performance Centre.

It is recognition of the potential shown by the New Road trio, who have all played second XI cricket at various stages this summer.

The match is part of Australia’s preparations for the forthcoming Under 19s ODI and Test series against England.

Worcestershire batting legend Graeme Hick is in charge of the Australian party and they will play an ODI at New Road on Saturday, August 22.

The players involved, including the County trio, could potentially come into under 19s recognition this summer.

Twohig played for the England development side against Pakistan under 17s in Dubai last winter.

Westbury scored his maiden century for Worcestershire during the Second XI Championship clash with Nottinghamshire.

Tongue has made several promising appearances for the second XI.

Meanwhile, Worcestershire seconds take a break from competitive action against a Birmingham League XI in a 50-over friendly at Bromsgrove tomorrow.

Coach Kevin Sharp’s side have had a hectic programme of Championship and Trophy matches in recent weeks.

But they can recharge their batteries for the season finale as today’s game is their only action of the week.

Joe Clarke, who has impressed with the bat in the LV= County Championship in recent weeks and scored a career-best 88 against Yorkshire at Scarborough, will keep wicket.

Clarke has been playing purely as a batsman at senior level.

Spinner Shaaiq Choudhry will skipper the seconds, whose next Championship action will be against Lancashire at Southport and Birkdale from next Monday until Wednesday.

Seconds: Rhodes, Clarke, Hepburn, Dell, Choudhry, Fraine, Williams, Smith, Russell, Scrimshaw, Whiles.
